fancasting the ladies of dorne: parvathi menon as sarella sand
“Sarella turned over rocks, brushed sand off the mosaics, and wanted to know everything there was to know about the people who had lived here.”
a word about this casting: i went back and forth for a long time about researching ethnically african or ethnically south-asian actresses for my dream-sarella, as she is clearly acknowledged to be half-dornish (correlating to my previous castings) and half-summer islander (ebony skinned). i really liked some peoples’ imagining of chipo chung for this part, but i ultimately decided to look into sinhala actresses for my interpretation as i couldn’t find any black-asian actresses who suited my vision (i’m a little appalled at how few indo-trinidadian actresses there are in modern cinema). my reasoning behind this is that the sinhala people are still part of the indo-aryan population of india and sri lanka, but they have different cultural and religious practices than the punjabi and gujarati actresses i’ve used previously (they are largely buddhist, for one). they’re also demographically popular in sri lanka, being an island south of the indian mainland. geographically this also helped secure her in my mind as an alternative. i hope no one takes offense at this, and if they do, i apologize. i’ve tried to be as racially accurate and considerate as possible with this dreamcast, but this one was very hard.
fancasting the ladies of dorne: zuleikha robinson as obara sand
“Obara. He knew her stride; long-legged, hasty, angry. In the stables by the gates, her horse would be lathered, and bloody from her spurs. She always rode stallions, and had been heard to boast that she could master any horse in Dorne … and any man as well.”
fancasting the ladies of dorne: isha sharvani as tyene sand
“Dornishmen fight best at home, so I say let us hone our spears and wait.”
fancasting the ladies of dorne: shivani ghai as nymeria sand
“I was abed with the Fowler twins when the word reached me,” the captain heard her say. “You know the Fowler words? Let Me Soar! That is all I ask of you. Let me soar, Uncle.”
"Some men think because they are afraid to do."
